Legends about the karmic cause from previous life for Dhritarashtra and Gandhari’s fate.

Dhritarashtra had the eyes of a swan that had a hundred cubs poked out and killed the hundred cubs.

Dhritarashtra threw a flaming net over a tree, causing the death of a hundred birds. A few managed to fly away but were blind from the heat.

That is why he was born blind in this life and lost his hundred sons in the war.

Gandhari once smashed a hundred eggs from a bird and therefore had to watch her hundred sons die in the war.

She cooked rice and poured the hot water on the door. One hundred insect eggs were destroyed in the process. The mother insect cursed her that her hundred sons would die.

Therefore, she led a life in darkness and lost her hundred sons in the war.
