Shakuntala

Daughter of Kaushika (Vishvamitra) and the apsara Menaka, grown up with sage Kanva, who found her under the wing of a Shakun bird and called her Shakuntala.

Dushyanta, son of king Illila, seduced Shakuntala, promised her to make her his queen and forgot about her. When she came to him with their son, Bharata, he denied her. Only a heavenly voice let him recognize his behavior.

The story from Mahabharata inspired Kalidasa to his famous act Abhijnanashakuntalam, the recognition of Shakuntala.
