Bhrushundi

A sage who had taken the form of Ganesha.

The good-for-nothing Kaivartaka was expelled from the city. He retired to the woods. One day he threatened a sage with a sword. The sage recited a Ganesha mantra and Kaivartaka only had the handle in his hand. The event made him an ascetic, he meditated on Ganesha under a tree. An anthill formed around him. After a long time the sage dug him up, Kaivartaka had assumed the form of Ganesha. The sage gave him the name Bhrushundi.
