Twelve Adityas

As the twelve Adityas, twelve deities from the Vedic period are named in the Puranas as manifestations of the sun, sometimes with different names.

An example from the Brahma Vaivarta Purana, here the twelve Adityas are called: Indra, Dhata, Parjanya, Tvastr, Pusan, Aryaman, Bhaga, Vivasvat, Vishnu, Anshuman, Varuna, Mitra.

As Indra Surya killed the enemies of the Gods.
As Dhata Surya created the living beings.
As Parjanya Surya brings rain.
As Tvastr Surya lives in trees and herbs.
As Pusan surya lets the grain grow.
As Aryaman Surya is the wind.
As Bhaga Surya is the body of all creatures.
As Vivasvat Surya is the fire.
As Vishnu Surya killed the enemies of the Gods.
As Anshumana Surya is the wind.
As Varuna Surya is the waters.
As Mitra Surya is the moon and the ocean.
