Yakshas are peaceful nature spirits, guardians of nature’s treasures. Their leader is Kubera, the treasurer of the Gods.
When Brahma created the demons, a few wanted to eat him, others wanted to protect him. The former were called Yakshas, the latter Rakshasas.
