Ravana

Demon, King of Lanka, devotee of Shiva, opponent of Rama in the Ramayana. His original name was Dashamukha, the ten-headed. Once he wanted to raise mount Kailash. Shiva trapped him. He screamed in pain and was henceforth called Ravana, the screaming one.

In the Adbhuta Ramayana he has a brother with thousand heads, Sahasramukha.

Ravana’s grandfather was sage Pulastya, a mind-born son of Brahma.

Uncles Maricha, Akamapana, Kalanemi (reborn as Kamsa)

Sons Indrajit (Meghanada), Atikaya, Akshayakumara, Devantaka, Narantaka, Trishira, Prahasta

Ravana and Kumbhakarna were the reborn door keepers of Vishnu Jaya and Vijaya.

The maternal line

Suketu, had three sons, Malyavan, Mali, Sumali, and a daughter, Tataka.
Tataka married Sunda, their sons were Maricha and Subahu, their daughter was Kaikesi, mother of Ravana.
