Surasa

Wife of sage Kashyapa. Mother of the Sarpas, the poisonous snakes.

In the Ramayana, at the behest of the Gods, she tested Hanuman’s strength when he jumped to Lanka. She wanted to devour him, Hanuman grew bigger and bigger, as did Surasa. Finally, Hanuman made himself very small, entered her body and declared that he had to save Sita. Surasa let him out.
