Vararuchi

Son of Samudragupta, scholar at the court of king Vikramaditya and one of the navaratna.

Vararuchi fathered twelve children who became the founders of twelve family clans in Kerala.

Melattol – The firstborn.
Pakkanar – A sage.
Rajakan – Was found by a washer.
Naranath Branthan – A mystic.
Karakkal – The only girl.
Akavur Chattan – A sage.
Vatutala Nair – An artist.
Vallon – A scholar.
Uppukuttan – A merchant.
Pananar – A musician.
Peruntachan – A temple architect.
Vayillakkunnil Appan – Worshiped as a deity.
