In the Shiva story, Bana received the favor of Brahma so that he could only be killed by a virgin. The Goddess appeared as such and killed Bana. She is venerated as Kanyakumari, an unmarried young girl, on the southernmost tip of India (Cape Komorin). Mythologically the place is called Kumarika.
