Kumara means young.
The Kumaras are four mind born sons of Brahma – Sanaka, Sanandana, Sanatana, Sanata.
Brahma had expected they would populate the earth with offspring, but they withdrew and lived in celibacy. They asked Brahma never to be older than five years.
They are connected with Shiva Dakshinamurti.
