Son of king Uttanapada and Surichi.
Uttanapada had two wives, Suniti and Surichi. He loved Surichi and her son Uttama more. Suniti and her son Dhruva suffered.
Dhruva prayed to Vishnu to reach a place where nobody had been yet. Vishnu made him the pole star.
