Chaitanya

A mystic from West Bengal, founder of the Gaudiya community, dedicated to devotion to Vishnu/Krishna.

ISKCON emerged from the Gaudiya community.

He is considered to be an embodiment of Vishnu/Krishna. As Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, he is the ‚great lord/master‘.

Another name – Gauranga – refers to his golden, shiny body.

His companion is Nityananda, the forever blessed, considered to be an embodiment of Balarama, Krishna’s brother.

Together they are called Gauranitai.

Chaitanya was born in Navadvipa in 1486 to the couple Jagannatha Mishra and Sachi.
Nityananda in Ekachakra in 1474 to the couple Hadai Pandita and Padmavati.
