Shiva went begging through the country, but received no alms. He went to Vishnu and begged him. Vishnu showed him the middle finger, whereupon Shiva cut it off. Vishnu was bleeding a lot. From this blood came the Kshipra River.
Sandipani, with whom Krishna studied, had his ashram on the banks of the Kshipra.
