Of these brothers, Taraka is the demon the myths talk about.
The parents are Vajranga and Varangi. Vajranga is a son of Kashyapa and Diti. Varangi created Brahma himself for Vajranga.
Taraka had asked Brahma for the boon that he could only be killed by a son of Shiva. Since Shiva had lived in solitude since Sati’s death, the demon felt save. He became a plague and the gods agreed that one had to marry Shiva so that he could father a son. That son was Karttikeya. In some myths he also kills the brothers, in others he spares them.
Taraka had three sons, Tarakaksha, Kamalaksha, Vidyunmali. They built Tripura.
