Vyaghrapada

A sage, son of Madhyanadhina, who lived near Chidambaram.

He worshiped Shiva only with flowers untouched by bees. He looked for these in the depths of the woods and in the undergrowth, and he regularly injured his hands and feet. Shiva provided him with tiger paws. Vyaghra – tiger, Pada – paw.

Vyaghrapada married the daughter of Vasishthas, their son was Upamanyu. He also raised a girl, Hemalekha, the child of King Sushena and the apsara Vidyutprabha, who had abandoned her. She married Prince Hemachuda.

Navapuliyur are nine temples in Tamil Nadu that Vyaghrapada visited with Patanjali.
